One of the biggest factors behind the success of the StepUP Overhaul program is the extensive warranty coverage Detroit Diesel provides. This coverage increases based on the level of overhaul selected. The following is a brief summary of the warranties offered under the StepUP program.
Step 1: Basic Overhaul
The Step 1 Basic Overhaul is backed by the standard Detroit Diesel parts and labor warranty. This warranty will cover the replacement of any failed new component for a period of 6 months/unlimited miles. It will cover the replacement of any failed reliabilt® remanufactured component for a period of 12 months/unlimited miles.
Step 2: Super Overhaul
The Step 2 Super Overhaul expands the warranty coverage offered under the Step 1 Basic Overhaul by including a 1 year/100,000 mile Power Protection Plan at no additional charge. This extended service coverage not only covers the components replaced during the overhaul, but also many inspected components already installed on the engine. They include:
- Cylinder Block
- Crankshaft & Camshaft
- Oil Pan & Pump
- Vibration Damper
- Flywheel & Housing

- Thermostat Housing
- Oil Cooler Housing
- Intake & Exhaust Manifold
- Gear Case Cover & Gear Train
- Rocker Cover

These components must meet the Detroit Diesel eligibility requirements set forth in the Series 60 Engine Overhaul Inspection/Certification Form. Additionally, the Turbocharger, Fuel Pump, and Water Pump are covered by the extended service coverage, if replaced at the time of the overhaul. Also, the engine must be in the original chassis, be less than 10 years old, and have fewer than 1 million miles (1.6M kilometers) to qualify for the Power Protection Plan. A $250 cash back option is available for Step 2 customers whose engine does not meet these requirements.
Step 3: Complete Overhaul
The Step 3 Complete Overhaul extends the Power Protection Plan coverage to 2 year/200,000 miles at no additional charge. The components covered by this extended warranty are the same as those described under the Super Overhaul warranty information. An important reminder: The POWERPACKS set of reliabilt® fuel injectors included in a Complete Overhaul are covered by the standard reliabilt® parts and labor warranty only as they are a normal wear item. As with the Super Overhaul extended service coverage, the engine must be in the original chassis, be less than 10 years old, and have fewer than 1 million miles (1.6M kilometers) to qualify for the Power Protection Plan. A $500 cash back option is available for Step 3 customers whose engine does not meet these requirements.
Step 4: reliabilt® Replacement Engine (Series 60 and MBE 4000)
Every reliabilt® Replacement Engine sold under the StepUP Overhaul program comes with a 3 year/300,000 mile Power Protection Plan. This extended warranty covers all genuine Detroit Diesel engine parts except fuel injection assemblies (and all parts within the assembly), electronic componentry (wiring harness, connections, and sensors), braking devices, accessories (i.e. generator, alternator, starter, air compressor, hydraulic pump, vacuum pump), seals, gaskets, maintenance items, and replacement of parts resulting from wear out. The mileage limitations on customer's engines for the Power Protection Plans offered under Steps 2 and 3 do not apply to the Step 4 (Series 60 and MBE 4000) reliabilt® Replacement Engine because it is completely remanufactured to Detroit Diesel's exacting specifications.
